Pe parcursul ultimilor ani, organizaţia AREA Chicago (http://www.areachicago.com) a creat hărţi, reviste şi a organizat evenimente pentru a învăţa mai multe despre oraşul lor: Chicago, Illinois. Revistele şi evenimentele lor au adunat vocile a sute artişti, cercetători şi activişti, care încearcă să regîndească oraşul, să-i dea o identitate şi să afle în ce direcţie acesta se poate dezvolta. În proiectul de cartografiere “Însemnările cetăţenilor pentru un atlas al spaţiului public din Chicago” au fost implicaţi sute de cetăţeni cu vîrstă între 6-70 de ani, care şi-au materializat viziunile şi cunoştinţele profunde despre oraş, desenînd hărţi ale oraşului pe şabloane speciale. În ultimii ani, cei doi cartografi, lideri ai grupului, Dave Pabellon şi Daniel Tucker, au fost invitaţi şi în alte oraşe ale SUA (Syracuse, Albuquerque, Pittsburgh) şi ale Europei (Zagreb, Granada, Chisinău) pentru a reproduce şi adapta proiectul “Însemnările cetăţenilor pentru un atlas”, în colaborare cu organizatorii locali din respectivele oraşe.
În acest an, Dave Pabellon şi Daniel Tucker colaborează cu Asociaţia Tinerilor Artişti din Moldova Oberliht (http://www.oberliht.com) pentru a crea “Însemnările cetăţenilor pentru un atlas al spaţiului public din Chişinău”. Asociaţia Oberliht va coordona distribuirea şi colectarea hărţilor şablon de la locuitorii Chişinăului prin intermendiul proiectului CHIOȘC (http://www.chiosc.oberliht.com) în martie, aprilie, mai 2010. Hărţile vor fi adunate în diferite publicaţii ale Asociaţiei Oberliht şi ale colaboratorilor de la AREA Chicago. Deasemenea va fi organizat un seminar cu locuitorii Chişinăului despre politica şi economia spaţiului public din Chişinău, precum şi o proiecţie, lectură şi atelier prezentat de Dave PABELLON şi Daniel TUCKER despre cîteva lucrări ale acestora din Chicago.
For the last five years the organization AREA Chicago has been producing maps, magazines and events to learn about their city: Chicago, Illinois. Their magazines and events have featured the voices of hundreds of artists, researchers, educators, and activists who are trying to rethink the city, who it is for and what directions it can go. With their mapping project “Notes for a People’s Atlas of Chicago” they have worked with hundreds of residents ranging in age from 6-70 to articulate their visions and deep knowledge of the city by drawing on blank maps of the city. In recent years the two lead map makers for the group, Dave Pabellon and Daniel Tucker, have been invited to other cities in the US (Syracuse, Albuquerque, Pittsburgh) and Europe (Zagreb, Granada, Chisinau) to reproduce and adapt the “Notes for a People’s Atlas” project in collaboration with local organizations in those cities.
This year, they are collaborating with Moldova Young Artists Association Oberliht to produce the “Notes for a People’s Atlas of Public Space in Chisinau.” The collaboration will involve Oberliht coordinating the distribution and collection of blank maps of Chisinau to residents of the city through their CHIOSC project in March, April, and May 2010. The maps will be documented in various publications produced by Oberliht and their collaborators from AREA Chicago. There will also be a seminar with various residents of Chisinau about the politics and economy of public space in the city, as well as a screening, lecture and workshop presented by Dave Pabellon and Daniel Tucker about some of their work in Chicago.
